Windu Kisworo, Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL), Jakarta, Indonesia
Windu Kisworo is a staff attorney at the Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL). He manages ICEL's Environmental Law and Enforcement Training Program, which has worked with the Supreme Court of Indonesia to train judges, police officers, prosecutors, and Ministry of the Environment staff. Windu traveled to Eugene in 2004 to work with E-LAW U.S. Staff Scientist Mark Chernaik to understand the environmental impacts of dumping mining wastes at sea. Although marine tailings disposal is prohibited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, multinational mining companies in Indonesia continue this hazardous practice.
The Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL) is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) specializing in research and capacity building, advocacy, and community empowerment to accomplish the principle of Good Sustainable Development Governance. ICEL carries out activities in legal and policy reform. It seeks to defend the public interest by pursuing the recognition of citizens' rights with respect to the environment and natural resources. It also works to enhance the capability of environmental NGOs and the Government of Indonesia with respect to Good Environmental Governance; that is, establishing the sustainable management of the environment and natural resources on a democratic basis by maintaining human rights values, democratization and the rule of law. sumber, http://www.elaw.org/custom/custompages/partnerDetail.asp?Profile_id=2575
